Reflect was born from a hospital bed, where I had little to do besides tinker with side projects. Frustrated with my go-to meditation timer— which had become increasingly complex and invasive of privacy—I decided to build my own.
After adding meditation tracking, I wanted to see how it correlated with other aspects of my life, like overall well-being. Around the same time, my former coworker (now co-founder) was using Google Forms to track her mood. We both wanted a privacy-focused tool that fit our needs, and so Reflect was created.
Today, we use Reflect to track nearly everything—mood, symptoms, activities, exercise, self-care routines, and even the time we spend building Reflect itself.
In creating a flexible tracking platform, we uncovered new ways to use Reflect for self-improvement and discovery, including:
- Setting personal goals by defining progress metrics (e.g., how often you go outside each day)
- Viewing trends and correlations across different aspects of life
- Running self-experiments to test the impact of lifestyle changes, like a new nighttime routine or medication
- Defining a daily schedule and tracking how time is spent
