About the TeamWe are OpenAI for Finance, a specialized group within the B2B Applications organization. Our mission is to build and operate products that deliver OpenAI’s cutting-edge research to millions of companies and developers around the world—from the OpenAI API to enterprise tools that help people work more effectively. Our teams work across product engineering, backend infrastructure, and safety to ensure our technology is reliable, secure, and a pleasure to use.

About the RoleWe’re looking for backend engineers to help design and scale the systems shaping the future of AI in finance. Operating as a lean, startup-like team within OpenAI, we’re seeking builders who thrive in fast-paced environments. On March 5, we launched ChatGPT for Excel—the first of many innovations to come in this space.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the end-to-end development of new platform capabilities and integrations

• Partner with product, design, and customers to deeply understand needs and deliver impactful solutions

• Collaborate with our research team to advance the next generation of AI models

Who You Are

• 5+ years of professional engineering experience (excluding internships) at technology or product-focused companies

• Startup founder or early-stage engineering experience is a plus

• Proficient in one or more backend languages (e.g., Python, Go, Rust, TypeScript) and familiar with distributed systems

• Excited to build infrastructure that handles billions of requests and petabytes of data

• Passionate about reliability, safety, and performance in production environments

• Interested in AI/ML—direct experience is not required

• Able to thrive in high-growth, product-driven settings, with a track record of navigating ambiguity and competing priorities
